The good thing about using the preview tool is that there is no risk of clicking on your own ads, which can incur penalties. This is easily done with ads which are being tested on your website.

You can also sample different ad formats and color schemes before placing them on your site, which can be a huge time saver as you don’t have to keep regenerating the code.

The preview tool also lets you geo-target the ads. So you can for example see which ads users in different countries will see from your website. This is impossible to do just by testing the ads on your site.
