Competitive Intelligence using Compete, KeywordSpy, Spyfu…

Email Updates

Competitive intelligence is one of my favorite subjects as well as quest. It basically means you stay above the curve by spying on what the competition is doing. In my last post I posted a video from Fast Company with some great content on Analytics.

I have developed a process to research potential competitors using compete.com services, cross referenced with Spyfu and Keywordspy. I find that the data is not consistent but very valuable to as compared to not researching anything about your competitors.

By using these sites, you get to amass some great data that can then be churned over at the Google sandbox to find some hot keywords that may have slipped by. I won't go into the step by step of what I do, I also use SEO Elite actually and if I want to keep the data I use SEO Elite rather than going directly to Google keyword tool.

It's so kool to find content like the Fast Company video that really gives you some insight into how important analytics is. And analytics online means keyword analysis, traffic evaluation and valuation.

I almost forget to mention I also use MSN Live's Commercial Intent tool since it ads an additional view to a potential keyword phrase. Hope this gives you some ideas on what to do when developing your keyword list.
