Suicide Prevention Week- Speak Up, Save Lives (off topic) but important

  RSS feed  or  Email Updates

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of attending an event by Ken McArthur called Impact Boot Camp. I have already blogged a bit about it and while I was meaning to share some more in depth detail of what I learned and what my personal take aways were of the event. I have not had a chance to do that.

My intentions were well meaning but when life is happening all the time and your trying to make a buck, take your kid to school, pick them up from school, manage calls etc etc etc… a well thought out blog about an event get’s thrown into the back of your mind.

I did mention intention for a reason and that is that the Impact Team from the Impact Bootcamp have been charged with the task of helping generate buzz and interest in a very very worthwhile cause.

Teen Suicide is this very special cause, the designated site is http://www.speakupsavelives.org and the focus is to get the word out to parents, caregivers, teachers, and anyone who interacts with teenagers about being aware of how many teen suicides there are and to speak up and not brush off is a child seems troubled and possibly contemplating suicide.

While it’s been a while since I’ve been a teen I do remember it clearly and one of the things I remember about that age for myself was how easily I would make rash decisions. I would make poor decisions simply based on my emotions without consideration of consequence. I’m sure being a teenager has not change and that type of behavior is still prevalent, over reacting seems to be glamorized in the movies and young folks are highly impressionable.

Anyways, I just wanted to chime in and say that if you have any teens in your life… stay conscious to any effort they may make to reach out to you. Teens from what I remember and have observed tend to stay within their age group and consult each other over issues that should sometimes be addressed by an adult or counselor.

If you ever get the felling that you have a troubled teen in your life don’t be shy about getting them more help. A great place to start is to simply go online and search for a local suicide prevention service.

Here are some possible terms you can use…

suicide prevention

teenage suicide prevention

teen suicide prevention

suicide prevention programs

prevention of teen suicide

prevention of suicide

american foundation for suicide prevention

suicide prevention resources

suicide prevention hotline

suicide prevention center

suicide prevention organizations

national suicide prevention

suicide prevention resource center

youth suicide prevention

suicide prevention services

suicide prevention hotlines

adolescent suicide prevention

I would also suggest that if your looking for something local to add your city at the beginning of the search phrases found about. These are specific keyword phrases that will get you results to find a local resource if you feel the need for help with a potential teen suicide situation.

Since suicide prevention week is among us, I would suggest taking note of your local resources just to be a little couscous of what is available locally to you. It’s my intention to add some small awareness to this effort that was presented at the Impact Bootcamp, please visit Speak Up and Save Lives at http://www.speakupsavelives.org for more.
