Closed Captions on Youtube and the implicatons of SEO
Youtube has just launched Closed Captions for Youtube videos which will undoubtedly be a score for anyone using Youtube for SEO and internet marketing. It was only a matter of time before closed captioning came to the web.
I for one like to use it when watching a movie with lots of dialog since much of the plot is in the conversations. For action movies, you don't really need closed captions but for more detailed content it helps. Now imagine this becomes the norm and you can add a script to the video, I haven't looked into Youtubes Closed Caption capabilities but if they allow the captions to have hotlinks, I would say they are on to something even bigger.
As for the potential SEO of it, captions are going to be dependent on text which allows for more on page based optimization. Here is demo Youtube made available, you can also have the content translated which is powerful as well….

Closed captioning is a great feature to add-in. I never even thought of it. As far as SEO goes I am wondering how it will help. Is the text actually findable by Spiders? If not then it will not do much as for as on page optimization. If however you can inbed hot links then this is a big deal. I really like this and am sure it will help in marketing efforts.
